Does your movie file have to be in DVD format to burn it to a DVD disc?

Needing a lot of help with this DVD burning I had no idea it'd be this complicated...Ne suggestions would really help :)

Things I have "?'s" on so far:
Can I burn my avi. movies to a DVD+R without doing any converting at all?
What can I do if my DVD recorder program on my comp. doesn't support the DVD+R discs?

I mean...sorry that question was dumb...umm i meant to say, my computers not letting me burn my movies onto my CD+R discs...it comes up with the message "Write-once media (such as CD-R, DVD-R) is not supported by this version of DLA."

I thought maybe converting my avi. files to DVD format and also using a program that supports DVD+R might actually help. Will it?

I posted a reply on your other tread. It's not your media it's the software. Replace the Sonic products with Nero or another burning suite that you pay for.

you have to convert them to view them on a dvd player. you can use many programs to convert them a good one being dvd santa, i think nero is pretty shit. You cant burn movies on a CD+R disk they are simply not big enough. You can probably store a .avi or .mpg movies on a CD+R to view back on your computer but thats about all.

Rip_UK. What if the file is an mpeg movie file? Can that be burnt onto a blank DVD or blank CD to be viewed on a DVD player (not the PC DVD) without any conversions?

you said you're getting an error about DLA and this is a Sonic software. I have the same stuff at home. Opinions about which movie decoder are pointless if you can't get your computer to want to burn discs. And yes DVD santa is good little peice of software.
