today I am hoping to put a q9650 in my sig rig. i have the processor here and the thermal paste for the cooler. I would rather not reinstall windows. I was told that If I flash the BIOS after the swap things should run smoothly.... can somebody walk me through doing this?

You may have to flash your BIOS, but you shouldn't have to reinstall Windows.

use this link to find out your current BIOS version, then go to the motherboards website and see what the most current version is, and read the release notes for it. There are programs out there that make a BIOS flash very, very simple, so don't sweat it.

i guess I should just try swapping the processors and if it doesnt work do what dirty said

well look, your board is a P45, they were made for quad cores to begin with. im sure that you can just drop it in and go.

I take it from your sig that the cpu swap went fine. I'm looking to get a Q9650 myself, or the Q9550. I noticed that you OC'd yours to 4.2... very nice. I've never OC'd before but am thinking that it wouldn't be 'too' difficult to get one of those quads up to 3.4 or 3.6. What do you think?

Asus P5B mobo
Q9550 or Q9650
4 x 2Gb GSkill DDR2 800
Antec 500W Earthenware PSU

Any advice would be appreciated!
