Done with Samsung. Need a new phone.

Well, my first phone was a Treo 650 in 2004. Had that phone until 2009 when I got my Palm Pixi. I actually still have my 650, and still works perfectly fine being held together with glue because it was dropped so many times. My Palm Pixi had a number of small issues that made me want to replace it so in 2012 I got my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket which at the time I bought it, was the best phone they had.

My problem is, just 2 years later the phone is riddled with problems. Its a mess. I have to constantly keep repairing the thing just to keep it usable. Iv had to replace the charger 3 times because the original charger cord just stopped working and the replacements they gave me lasted about 2 months each before they failed as well. Started to think it was the port on the phone, which I have cleaned out numerous times but for the past 4-5 months Iv been using a charger I bought from walmart with no issues at all.

And for the past few weeks the power button has been "touchy". To the point where today it just turned itself off and kept turning itself off and on all day making it unusable. So I when I got home, I did some research and found out its a common problem with all Galaxy phones from the first one to the 4th one. Took my phone apart to the bare bones and cleaned it out so it looks brand new, inspected for loose connections didnt really see any but I fiddled with the power button a bit and got it working fine now. But Im assuming it wont last.

My friend had the first galaxy which he ran into this same problem, then he upgraded to the third one and had the same problem rather quickly, and now he has the S5 and it has other issues with charging.

So....Im done with Samsung. If they cant build a quality phone then I have no interest in buying another.

Iv heard good things about the suspiciously cheap Nexus 5, and the HTC One. Was wondering if anyone has either of those phones and could help me choose which one. Im due for an upgrade through my provider, and Im leaning towards the HTC One. Dont want anything to do with Apple products. Bought an Ipod, will never buy another Apple product again. I hate it.

I just dont understand why a company as big as Samsung cant make a quality phone like Palm did....I mean, my Treo 650 has lasted 10 years while I havent seen a Galaxy last more than 2 without being replaced. Im starting to think its a scam to get people to buy the newer phones. But I certainly wont be paying $600-$700 for something that they spent $50 to make.

how much is Nexus 5 in US? It is a bit outdated.

If you want to spend a fair amount of $$ on phone and exclude samsung and apple, I would say HTC One. Another option would be LG G3. (comparison here)

If you don't want to spend a lot, probably Moto G.

I have been move away from top of the line mobile for a while. Just get some cheap phone with OK spec.

The Nexus 5 is $349 for the 16GB and $399 for the 32GB. I'd hardly call it outdated. It's not even a year old yet. And as a Google phone, it gets the most recent version of Android right away, without the need to ROM it to let the latest version.

Samsung sucks, my wife has had a Samsung tablet I bought her for xmas and it is always having problems.

Samsung is like most things which come out of Korea, crap. Take Kia and hyundia for example, both have made claims to have models that are the same quality of Mercedes and BMW. If you have been in all these cars and take the time to look at the difference you will still find quality differences and not to mention I see plenty of 80's and 90's BWM and Mercedes running around but not to many Hyundia or Kia.

Nexus 5 or Moto X. Both are affordable and good quality.

My mom's S4 also has issues with charging. Come to think of it, my dad's old flip phone also did. Wonder what's up with that.

Have you looked at Blackberrys? From what I've heard, the Z10s are pretty nice and tough (though of course I would still put a case on it if you drop your phone a lot). Also, the Lumias really are quality phones. They are built by Nokia, after all.

Unless your a app junky, or have a few apps you absolutely need, WP is a great OS. BB10 is to, and you don't have to worry about apps with it. It will run almost every single Android app out there (except the ones that rely on Google Play Services, which are most of Google's apps, like Wallet, etc.). With the latest update, you can install APKs directly on the phone.

If you want to stick with Android, I would get a Moto X. I'm currently using one, and it really is a nicely designed phone. I've also heard great things about the Nexus 5, ands the Moto G.

Obviously your gonna need to run with a case though if you drop your phone that much.

I have a Spigen SlimArmor case my Nexus 5 and it's a nice case. Way better than any Otterbox I've ever owned.

I wouldn't get a Nexus 5, it's outdated by today's standards. Phones become outdated around a year after release when their counterpart is released. True, there is no Nexus 5 replacement, but the Nexus 5 is a lower spec'd LG G2, and that was replaced last month with an LG G3.

If you are buying on contract, I would get an LG G3, HTC One M8, or wait for Motorola's new "X+1" phone. If you are buying off contract, I'd get an LG G2 which can be found for less than a Nexus 5 from the Play Store.

Yup look at the Lumia 930 or maybe the 1020 or 1520 depending on what screen size you want if you want a Windows Phone. :good:

Thanks. I havent really looked at the G3. And i dont drop phones anymore haha. That was when i was in high school. Iv only dropped my S2 once and it put a small crack in the screen but didnt scratch anything. I never dropped my Pixi. But i do always buy cases for my phones.

Its been a year since i dropped my S2, and it worked perfectly fine since then up until a few months ago.
