don't know why Fallout 3 is freezing

While these two argue about hardware I'll put forth this.

Have you tried reinstalling it? Still sounds like a software issue with corrupt files or the like. And for what you're wanting to do and play, your hardware is fine.

Uninstalling/reinstalling in a few minutes :)

Original post or original poster. The thread starter, in this case you

Thanks. Well, I uninstalled FO3, reinstalled it, this time with my 2 TB Samsung Green drive (I'm never buying a green drive again - it seems sooo much slower) unplugged and the additional DVD writer unplugged. So far, no problems. Additionally, having nothing to do with the game freezing, I was able to start over the whole game with better skills than I chose the first time. Additionally, this being the first FPS game I've played since 1999-2000, my strafing skills were already much better only a few weeks later :D:D

I know your pain, i need to move LoL from my caviar green to my SSD's, it is painfully slow.

If it starts to freeze again a few hours in i would put it down to the bugginess of the game. You aren't tabbing out by any chance are you, as it is worth pointing out it is one of those games which will not let you back in after coming out.

I don't know the term tabbing out, I mean I've never heard that before, but I'm assuming it means alt+tab to switch between programs. If you mean that, no, cuz there's actually no way for me to get out of the game except through Esc then exit with the mouse or ctrl+alt+del. I only used ctrl+alt+del when stuff started freezing on me.

Glad to see you got it fixed without wasting money on hardware. Let us know if you have any more issues.

I can't wait for bigfella to see that the OP has solved his problems without changing out any of his "outdated" hardware.

Especially after all that pointless arguing

I doubt I'm the only one thinking this.

You would be correct.

ITs been a matter of hours. Lets just wait and see.

But for the OP im very happy. Ill admit that may be i jumped to the HW conclusion too early, thats the beauty of forums, they provide multiply opinons.

What I do think though, for $145, thats a massive upgrade and well worth it.

Either way, happy for the OP and glad its sorted.

Totally agree with this, a small investment would give you an insane performance boost, but for just fixing this issue I don't think new hardware is the best option. :D

Hey Weatherman, what would you say if I said that I got a PM today with the OP still having issues?

performance issues haven't left since FO3 problem

Hey Weatherman, what would you say if I said that I got a PM today with the OP still having issues?

So, my issues, and I'll try to be concise.

FO3 is no longer an issue becuz I'm not gaming. In spite of the 2 TB Samsung EcoGreen drive being "green", it seemed to draw enough power from my PSU that every time I disconnect it I notice a slight increase in performance. Thus, I can't have everything connected that I want to have connected without major lag on startup, read/write, and seek time.

Not sure if it would be better to build a new "rig", sparing no expense, but at the same time not needing a hardcore GPU since I'm no longer gaming OR if I should upgrade PSU and CPU (which my mobo would only support a 6-core AMD CPU and those are hard to find new). Not to mention the ASUS mobo. It doesn't support USB 3.0 connectivity. Also, the fact that my system is not SATA III capable.

So, I guess the question is: Spend on upgrades that really won't upgrade me to today's standards or spend on a new customized rig? I know it sounds like I answered my own question here, but I need some guidance. Thanks.
