Okay my friend thinks he knows a bit about computers after watching me build a few. I gave him an old 40GB hard drive, I figured he could handle it since he put in a DVD drive in that comp soooo....

He just called me:
Him: Hey, I hate you
Me: Why?
Him: My computer is at a black screen with a blinking line. (The screen where it pretty much tells you it cant do anything)
Me: How is that my fault?
Him: Well the computer was on and I took out one of my hard drives an...
Me: AHAHAHHAHAHHAAHHAH!!!!!!......(2-3 minutes of rolling on the floor)....oh sorry ummm go on
Him: Whats so funny?
Me: ........are you joking?
Him: No
Me(smirking): Okay ummm just put everything back like it was and try to turn it on.
Him: I did that and its like this (the black screen)
Me: So what exactly happened?
Him: Well I took one of my hard drives out and I clicked on each hard drive in My Computer and when I clicked on one my computer froze. (he has 3 HDDs all about 3-8GBs, the one he took out was, to my understanding, not the OS drive.)
Me: Well....take all of the hard drives but the OS drive out and try it.
Him: (after a few minutes) Nope....
Me: Wh.....Why did you think you could do this?
Him: Well I thought it was like an MP3 Player, you know you like take it ou.....
Me: Plug and Play? okaaaay........Hard Drives are INSIDE your computer, if its INSIDE its not plug and play. USB drives are plug and play....
Him: Oh...
Me: Just bring me the comp this weekend, ill fix it
Him: I know you will...
Me: guess what?
Him: What?
Me: I HAVE to post this on the Computer Forum!!
Him: thanks, thats just great......
(the rest is nuthing interesting)

I dont need any suggestions on fixing it since I'm sure I can fix it anyways, just thought I'd make you laugh a bit.

Well they aren't, whether or not they are meant to be. At least not for me...
Actually they are designed to be hot swappable, if you have a sata hard drive you have the safely remove hard ware icon, what I found is not all motherboards support it but they are capable of it.
