in the near future i want to build a computer and use it with DOS just for fun

is it possable to use DOS with windows applications like using the prompt durring windows or is that the only way

what i want is only the prompt no startup that takes 3 years

is it even possable to run dos on today's hardeware?

any help would be nice thanks
 
I think your best bet would be to use a virtual machine of DOS. Download VPC from MS since it is a free download and run a virtual machine of DOS. Most hardware these days do not have dos support.
 
You could always try linux.

That doesn't take years to boot up and has equivalents of windows programs or you could just use linux with WINE.
 
yeah you can run dos on today's hardware. as for dual boot with windows and dos i'm not so sure. i do know you used to be able to run dos then if you had windows 3.1 on your computer you could run that once dos started. What hardware are you using?
