Dot.Dat Problem

Hello forum!

My Dat files have changed to "wordPad" documents. I am sure this is going to cause a problem. How can I change them back.

Programs frequently take charge of .dat files when the program is installed. Right now my .dats are registered with WinDVD. It should not cause problems, as you do not usually open a .dat file by clicking on it. Unless you experience a problem, I would leave it as it is.

Agree with the above post. You can always change the file association by righ-clicking on the .dat file, selecting open with and then choosing the program you intend to open them with (without forgetting to check "always use this to open....". Hope that helps. However, I would leave it.

I am sure this is going to cause a problem.

Depends on the actual contents of the DAT file (DAT files can contain a whole slew of different types of data)

How can I change them back.

"Wordpad documents" is just a pretty way of windows telling you what it thinks it is. It doesnt affect the actual extension
