Dots Appearing On Monitor

Hello,
I appear to be having some trouble with my ATI All-In-Wonder 9000. At random it places pixel sized dots all around the screen. I do not know what causes the placement of these dots, however sometimes quick movement the mouse or a window will leave a trail behind. These dots seem to be simple enough to get ride of, for example, if there is a dot on my desktop and I move a window over it, then away from it, the dot will disappear. You may be asking yourself what the problem is, but you’d be surprised how quickly this become distracting to whatever you’re doing.

These dots don’t just appear on the desktop, however. They can appear in windows or virtually anywhere on the screen. Especially annoying is when I’m watching movies. Instead of pixel sized dots, I get larger dots that appear everywhere on the movie. Anyway, I’ve posted pictures to show you what happens. I think that the dots show up well enough that I don't have to point them out, but if you can't spot them, I'll circle them or something.

If it would help solve the problem, I would be more than happy to answer any questions that would help diagnose and fix the problem.

I found this forum after googleing “computer forum” and hopefully the combined knowledge of people here will be able to solve the problem. Thank you for your help; I look forward to your thoughts.

woow, that 1st 1's weird, is this a LCD screen? have you tried a different monitor?

That definetly looks like a video card issue... I'd try different drivers, both newer and older. Check how hot the GPU is getting, too. Maybe even see about getting another video card just to test it...

I have had a similar problem, though not as drastic, but the problem turned out to be the GPU was getting much to hot. Do the dots appear after you use a graphically demanding program?

The dots appear right after I load windows. Interestingly enough, they do not appear - that I have noticed - on the login screen, just after I sign in. I do have another card; I got this ATI card from a friend and I have been using an Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 for the lifetime of my computer. The ATI card has been tested with multiple computers on multiple monitors.

It's remotely possible you have a driver issue, but it sounds more like a heat problem as was mentioned or iffy RAM

Hey i think thats the same problem im having, but mine is worse. Happens when i play games, then i have to restart comptur, for everything to go back to normal :/

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately for me, this is a perpetual problem, not just after doing one activity, such as playing a game.

You alomst surley have a bad (defective) video card (hardware). would look about returning that.

The reason you see no glithinc in the start up screen is becuase in the loading screen windows does not turn on any hardware acelerators on the video card.

As I stated before, I got this from a friend (for free). Returning it is not an option, however if you have any suggestions as how I could pinpoint the problem on the card and repair it, I would be extremely greatful.
