Double 80mm fans to side of case ??

im sure it would make a bit of a difference but if ur temperatures are fine with the one fan then i would just leave it and let it be. it would also be louder.

it would make a difference if they spin in opposide directions ( only the spinning , so the airflow still to only 1 side. )
however.. the external fan should be a bigger fan as the one inside the case.
this wouls five you a air compression between the 2 Fans. ( like in a Jet engine) and the performance would increase.
however.. having a Fan on the outside of the case isnt really the solution i think.

Stacking fans is next to useless in my opinion. Unless they are exactly the same RPM/CFM 24/7 (which is impossible for cheap little case fans), you're always going to have one fan pushing more/less air than the other. You'll get the faster fan pushing on the slower fan, and the slower fan will block the air the faster fan is trying to push through, which in turn puts more work on the faster fan...slowing it down.
Give it a try if you want, but it's not going to be 2X the performance as everyone else has already said.

A few things to clear up:
Air flow is caused by a pressure difference, and in the case of a computer, the fan is what causes the pressure difference. The air flow can be said to be the pressure difference divided by the resistance (the same way as an electrical circuit where V = iR and the same as heat transfer q = DeltaT/R). Putting two fans in series will be similar to putting to batteries in series except there will be some funky fluid dynamics (the difference in fan speeds that 4W4K3 mentioned will be applicable here) in there which will cause diminished performance. Therefore you won't get double the airflow, but you'll get more than if you just had one fan.
Anyway, I wouldn't bother with doing that though you might find it fun to try. I would either get a higher performance fan or add additional fan holes and fans.

Compressors in gas turbine systems are staged, but the goal is to compress the gas to a very high pressure which is not the goal in this case.
