double cursor from static?

When I am away from my computer for awhile and it goes into hibernate, I find that the static from touching the mouse when I am ready to use the computer again causes a double cursor (two points about 1/2 inch apart). I've been rebooting to get rid of it but wonder if any of you know of a quicker way to resolve this?

I'm not totally sure it's being caused by static so if you think there is some other reason I'd love to hear it.

Either a virus or the hibernate function is not working properly. The only way I can really think to fix the problem is to reinstall the operating system...
