double monitor?

my friend has his computer setup so he has 2 monitors.... and when his cursor gets the the end of the one on the left it moves over the the right one. how do you do this and what are the bennifits and bad things about having this setup

Two monitors put more load on your GPU, so playing games on both monitors will be limited. However, you will have more room for other windows. You can probably turn off one monitor if it goes to slow in gaming.

Its basically an extended desktop, mainly for people who need a bigger area to work, and are limited by 1 monitor. And example would be having multiple spreadsheets open at once, or browsing the web and working with photoshop.

Only some games are capable of using the extended desktop feature, most other games simply clone the image on both monitors. But as mrbagrat said, this does cause more strain on your gpu, but its mainly caused my having such a high resolution.

All in all, extended desktops are useful if you need alot of desktop room, other then that it gets a little annoying having such a wide monitor with a gap in the middle.

if you had the DFI ultra-D and you used 2 video cards it would take less stress off right, and you would stil be able to play games on the one monitor and your primary card without stressing it any right. its something i might want to consider.

well ur mobo has nothing to do with it really. its really based on ur cpu and ram if ur using it for multitasking but if u wanna play games on 2 monitors u also need a good gpu.

but u do need a good gpu in the first place to even get dual montior options.

Yes but generally speaking (unless you're planning on doing multiple windowed instanced games), you wont notice any additional GPU load since only one can actually draw to the VC at any given moment

Well it depends on what settings you've got in the videocard drivers, if you're running say DualView (i.e., what was described) then it'll only render to one monitor (with some rare exceptions)

Correct although its almost a neglgible amount of added stress
