My dad just handed me a vista home premium disc he had from work. It is an original copy!
I have the 32 bit version of vista ultimate on my laptop and i want to downgrade. So i have just one question. If I were to put the Disc in and click install and go through with the installation, would it make ultimate into premium without any data loss?

Yes or No.
Thanks.

THATS A FIRST.

either your have a pirated version of windows or jsut know nothing of the systems.

Ultimate and Home premium are the same extras. you benifit fomr neither when having them. so downgrading is pointless

Because I want to update my BIOS and on the HP website it sys it only supports ultimate x64, so I kinda need home premium to update it.

the operating system will not restrict you from updating your bios. the bios is a chip on the motherboard controleld by the MB NOT THE OS. which is why you have to reboot into bios to do anything. if the OS had anyhting to do with it you can alter it right from your desktop.

Let me ask this again: If I were to put the vista home premium disc in and click install and go through with the installation, would it make ultimate into premium without any data loss?

Yes or No.
Thanks.

I doubt it can be done, but what you are doing is pointless because the Basic Input Output System runs from the motherboard not the OS, but if you are willing to attempt it, back up all of your data and re-install.

NO, you would need to format your drive and start all over again and install Premium.

You need to get this straight. Now your saying it only supports Ultimate, but you want to downgrade to Premium.

If you update the Bios with a floopy it doesnt matter what OS you have.

If you using a windows based update program, show me a HP link that says it only runs on Premium not Ultimate or the other way around.

go to this link:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3548368

Do you see the operating systems? If so, then do you see Windows vista ultimate 32 (thirty two) bit?
If not, then do you see windows vista home premium 32 (thirty two) bit. If so, then I (me, Strokes) need (s) windows vista home premium 3s (thirty two) bit to update my bios. Do you understand?

It does not matter what version of OS you are running to update the bios. You don't even have to install an OS to update the bios.

we understand your question, you do not understand our answer.

you can update your BIOS without even having a harddrive in your computer. It does not matter what OS you are running, it could be linux, leopard, XP, Vista, or Windows 3.1. Even if you are trying to update the BIOS from the OS (good god please dont try this) there are other ways to do it. it DEFINITELY does not matter what version of Vista you have. the fact that you even think that makes me wonder whether or not you should be messing around with a BIOS update. do you realize that if you mess up the BIOS update you will not be able to turn your computer on anymore?
