My dial-up connection says 52Kbs and it surfs the net pretty good, but when I download something (manuel, report) it drops down to only a few Kbs, usually below 1Kbs. Is this normal downloading speed or does this too-o-o-o slow.
Thank You;

i think that is not normal and is to slow and you should have that checked out. but wait for somebodys elses opinion first

when you connect to the internet, a little message should pop-up in the bottom-right hand corner of your desktop, it should say "Connected at ##.#", tell us what it says, and it also depends on where your downloading from, some servers are very slow, try downloading something from filefront.com simce they usualyl have a fast and stable connection.

that seems like dial up.. so download speed are regularly around 4-5 average.. however, since its dial up u should expect 1 K also.. it'll depend on wut ur running at the time.. if ur surfing while downloading also.. stuff like that.. i have had times when i was getting like 300 kb/s .. but luckily i switched to broadband

dial up shouldnt be that slow, cause that would mean that you conenction is only around 8kbps.

I have dial-up. These are my speeds:
If you connect at 31200BPS you can expect around 3Kbs download
28800Bps it around 2.5-2.7Kbs downloads
21000Bps it around 1.8-2Kps
With dial-up you will never connect at 56K the maximum is like 53K or 53000Bps but since phone lines has lots of noise affecting the data it slows down your connection speed.

I have dial up too. And I rarely see 3kps. Dial up just sucks.

I hate dial up so much but I cant convice the old man $40 is worth it. Important phone calls missed and other stuff like that. But he wont budge.

when i had dial up i never did much better than 2 kBps when downloading. it might just be your provider that sux.

My connection speed in lower right corner usually says from 50-52Kbps. During heavy traffic it will drop to about half that. Thank You mailliw

most likely its where your downloading from, since some sites (especially if there in another country) run on slow servers and have slow isps, so as i said before, you should go to filefront.com and download something there.

yha I normally get around 4 Kbs from filefront.

That a little wired because the FCC only allows your dial-up speed to max out at 53K. :confused:

you must live AT the telephone company for that kinda speed, lol, my max speed was only around 45KBps and i lives about 2 miles from the telephone company.
