download driver from ati site or not?

I reformat my computer.. after booting from done reformatting.. it auto install ati driver for me. it shows ATi screen and installing driver.

Do I still have to additionally go to ATi website and install the driver? or i'm good?

What brand and model card? For an older Radeon from the X1xxx lineup the latest catalyst would be out since those are for the HD 2xxx models seen now plus the 3800s are out. ATI drops models fast. The 7.9 is to be avoided if you still see that when deciding to go for an update some time.

It's a X850XT pci-express from sapphire. so do I have to get the driver?

If everything is up and running normally and you are not seeing prompts to update like those seen often with the Steam gaming engine you won't have to rush there. For that model the latest catalyst is seen at http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp if running XP Pro or Home editions.

For Vista 32bit edtions the 8.1 number is also used at http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32
