download windows 95

i was not sure if this would be ok to post here or not, but i figured since i am not talking about anything illegal it shouldn't matter

my dad recently got a computer from a friend as a wedding present. of course it's an old piece of junk that only has windows 95 on it

and from everything i can tell that is about all it can handle

we have the product key that came with the system, but unfortunatley do not have the windows cd. and of course i have never held on to one of mine from my old systems since i thought i would never need them again.

i was wondering if anyone knew if i can, and where i can download windows 95 from and then put it on a cd so i can actually reinstall windows on this system

thanks all

yeah i know. he got this thing (i don't even feel right calling it a computer/system) for a wedding gift
and what's really bad about it was he was really happy about it...lol

i thought about looking around p2p type things, but right now i don't have one since winmx started charging. and, i'm affraid of downloading files like that from p2p programs and such
that would probably be a .exe file or something wouldn't it? possibly virus infested.
lol

EDIT: and i know nothing about torrent stuff. although i've been wanting to learn

also, just out of curiosity as i am not completely sure. would downloading windows technically be illegal? considering i am not stealing a product key or something i wouldn't think so, but i'd like to know for sure

95 is so outdated now that torrents sites most likely dont even have it anymore. or if they do, its not seeding. its dead. p2p. they might have it.. but it can be 95 or a virus. really up to you.

you can get an OEM for like.. 30 bucks now...

do you know of the specs?
you can maybe get 98. possibly better chance of you finding it if its still available n not illegal.

thanks computerhakk
that's kind of what i was thinking about getting a copy of it

oh, and i'm not sure about the specs, but i know that i didn't see any kind of memory that i recognized. to be honest, i didn't even see sdram in there or anything.
i don't know what came before sdram, so i don't know what else to look for. lol

That would be EDO RAM

edo? never heard of it. lol
know of anywhere i can see a pic of it so i know what to look for?

i'm not sure how old the system is, but it has what looks to be a really old hdd. it looks like it's about the size of a cd drive only skinnier
and, it has a drive in one of the 5.25" bays that has something to do with pictures. have never seen one before. from what it looks like, you put like a 4X6 pic in it, and it either prints it from the drive(which i doubt) or maybe scans it onto the computer.
anyone ever heard of something like this?

Maybe it's one of those old 5.25 inch floppy drives?
would be cool if it was a photo printer though

are there any distros of linuc that will run smoothly on such old hardware?
all the ones i have found seem to need relatively high specs, i once got ubuntu on a pc with 64mb ram and it worked, just incredibly stuttery, if there are any distros made for old hardware could someone please post
Thanks

I would imaging yes it would be illegal. Also whatever copy's you find on a torrent site would prob. have the serial and everything with the file. So yea that in itself would make it illegal.
