Downloading and installing Drivers

I have been having some problems with my graphics card, my motherboard not working well with dual channel RAM etc. And I thought it was because they parts where bad... However I have since installed driver update and it claims that 38% of my drivers are out of date (and it shows the drivers that I should have)... but when I try to update from the device manager it claims the drivers are up to date.

My question is whether there is a free (completely) free tool that scans your computer and updates all your out of date drivers, similar to what Driver update pro does but free :)

Don't trust those driver update tools. All you need to do is just go to the manufacturers website for the video, sound, network, etc device you are wanting to update and see what version is available and check that against device manager.

+1 Great advice. I would not trust a word any driver utility programs told me. If you have to, run a driver cleaner and download and install all new and updated drivers.

There is a good program that you can use to keep your drivers up to date, but it's not free. It's called Uniblue DriverScanner 2009 and it runs for $40.

CPU magazine gives it 4 stars out of 5. But I have not tried it, so if you decide to, let me know how it worked.
