downloading speed

Ok, I dont understand why when I download something I start out at like 1-1.5mb per second then it steadily drops for about a minute and ends up around 100-150kb. anyone have any idea why this happens? I know that the sites are limited speed but if i had 1.5mb at one point why wouldnt i be able to keep it up? maybe its my computer? im stuck with the family pc so that could be why but im not sure.

it happens with all downloads, it speeds up at first....then drops...reasoning...I knew, but then forgot. It's not the computer, it's just in general.

Yes, that's normal. It's called bandwidth...and as you begin to download something your connection is "free." However, after you start downloading something your bandwidth begins to fill up, and it drops in speed. What you end up with at the end (if it's a lengthy download) is your "constant" download speed. So if you end up between 100-150kb then that would be your "load" download speed if you will.

Consider yourself lucky, for 56K users it can be 1-2Kb.

heheh, wlel right now im downloading the F.E.A.R demo at 263KB/sec even though the server says its capped at 250kb :P

When i get the internet on my computer though i would expect it to be a bit faster seeing as how this pc has about 20 million things sending out to the internet at once :)

thanks for the info guys!
