Downloading YouTube Video's

Hi people, im asking a quick question which has been stuck in my head for the last few days!

Is downloading YouTube vidoes via a downloader such as [url removed] illegal?

I think it is illegal to download them yes because alot of the vids are copyrighted.

Some however are not.
