Drive can't read DVD

Have an Emachines M6805. The combo can read a regular CD w/ data, but as soon as I put a DVD disc in the drive, computer doesn't even recognice there's a disk in the drive....Called support and they had me uninstall driver, restart and auto install driver. Same problem. Plz help.
Win XP/SP2 installed.

Regular CD-ROM. I haven't tried a "data" DVD yet - just a DVD movie. I'm on the road and will be able to test further when I get home tomorrow...

Checked ASPI w/ utility. Not installed so I installed it for XP32-bit and restarted. No fix.

Any chance that SP2 would have caused this?

BTW, no luck trying to access a DVD-data either. ANY DVD disc causes drive to "search" for a few seconds and then stop with no success to access the disc.
