drive letter issues again

please not for future reference that my external was on n and my full hard drive was on D

alright so i just filled my hard drive to capacity, so i purchased an external one. i proceeded to copy my media folder over to it (most of my space is filled by media) assuming that i could switch my drive letters so that all the programs like itunes or premiere would still have the correct paths for the files i use. i went into the storage managment and first took my full hard drive of D, then i could not find d on the list of drive letters for the external drive, or the internal drive.
how do i find D? where did it go? thanks!

You forgot to look at the information given on the first thread you started back in Oct. 07 seen at http://www.computerforum.com/100474-hard-drive-title.html

You simply saw the drive letters shifted once you added a new drive onto the system. On a one HD system the first optical drive automatically takes D if there's no second partition on the hard drive given that logical drive letter.

You first would need to right click on the optical drive to see that changed from D to E, F, G, or another available letter there. Once done you can assign D to the external drive by simply right clicking on the item for it in the Disk Management tool. You'll then see the option for changing drive letters with a dropdown list there.

"Control Panel>Admistrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management"

EDIT: Use the edit button like this seen here to add more instead of multiple posts. That will save and even will save twice over often on thread space.

and by the way i have had this external drive for months now, and it is my 3rd HD. but i only just now filled my internal storage drive, and had to move things over

If the D letter isn't in use by any other drive then it's free to readily assign by simply bringing down the list of letters to see what letter is now used to be switched to D. If the external drive is now G you simply select D to see that done.

When you seeing a drive letter already in use then you first change that to a different one first. But it seems like it's already available for assigning. Once you have the drive letter assigned then you would create new playlists pointing to D if that will work for an external model.

Meanwhile take a second look at the reply above to see how the edit button works.

EDIT AGAIN: just to show more.

alright i circumvented my problem anyways, but i literally cannot find d on the list of letters and there is no other drive using. but w/e doesn't matter nw.

Once the letter was assigned to a drive it is no longer seen on the list when right clicking on a different drive to change that drive's assign drive letter. The image here shows the F letter for the XP drive currently assigned as you look at the dropdown.

Now look what is seen when going to change the drive letter on the G storage drive.

The letter "F" is not seen there since it is already in use making it unavailable.
