Drive With Bad Sectors - Struggling To Image - Windows 7

Hi,

I have a drive with bad sectors. I've run chkdsk \r \f, using Macrium Reflect, and it gets to 100% and fails on the main partition. (Error 23)

I was able to successfully image the recovery partition of the old drive.

My goal is to not purchase a new license if I don't have to.

Thanks.

You can just image the recovery partition onto a new drive then run the system recovery. In any case, you don't need to buy a new license of Windows. You have the key on the side of the computer.

The only reason why I may need a new license is because I'm replacing the drive with a different model. Though, if I have the recovery partition, you're saying the drive type will be corrected in the restore process correct?

After multiple attempts, Reflect finally completed an image of the main partition! Now I've got images of both partitions. I should be able to put them both on the new drive and run a system recovery.

Do we all agree?

You don't need a different key for a different drive. That only pertains to motherboard changes.

You don't even need the main partition. You can just image the recovery partition and run the recovery when you boot the machine (depending on what computer you own).
