Hey,

So i recently rebuilt an older pc into a new small case.

Everythings working nicely exept one thing which i cannot get me head round.

The dvd drive!!!

It will not open,I press the eject button and i just hear a slight click, ive tried doing it within windows by clicking eject and i still hear that little click.

Its like its stuck so i tried another dvd drive i have, that does the exact same thing.

These drives are both 100% working,Its just for some reason it they both will not eject in this system

Ive even took them out the case to see if that was preventing it somehow from opening but still nothing ?

Both drives are IDE btw.

any help appreciated.

sounds like the drive is jamming inside, does it open with when you push a pin in the little hole? do the drive have enough power? check the 5 and 12 volt rails, as long as it almost 5/12 volt it should still open
if all this fails, then i'd open the drive up and have a look, it could just be a the drive belt.

Hey mac,

Thing is bud,ive tried two other drives and they do EXACTLY the same thing!

All the drives ive tried are working in my main rig,but when i put them in that rig it doesnt open lol.

somethings up and i have not a clue but its deffinatly not the drives its something else.

i cant see it been power issue,it has 400W psu and im only running this setup

AMD Sempron 2088+
1.25Gb of ram
ATI 9600 pro 256mb AGP
120Gb IDE hard drive

it was running for over two years with that psu and not any problems...just since case swap.

Right i looked at the drive, noticed the jumper on it was set to SLAVE so i set it to Primary.

Now it sometimes opens and it will read the disks fine but sometimes when i press eject i just get that click again and nothing like its stuck.

but after pressing it about 10 times or more if eventualy opens.

Its definatly not getting caught on anything,Its not a bad drive it has to be something else.

Bootup whats the hell is starforce lol.

adharsh....read that link thanks,

I have done what they said

Just pulling them off and pushing them back on hard did the trick

Did not fix the problem so it cant be a loose connection.

Just wondering: Does your old build have open 5.25" bays - no face plate? Does the new build have any sort of vanity door that hides the drive when the tray is closed?

Also, do you have any disks in the drives?

You're welcome Nevakonaza, I had this problem before, but I never got around solving it.
I opened my case today and the fix in the link I had posted earlier fixed my problem.

I had found a temporary fix earlier, but it's really stupid, so that's why I didn't post it earlier. Just insert a blank disc the next time it opens up, and yeah, any disc will do.
You will be able to open the drive normally as long as you don't close the drive without the disc in it.

I know that it sounds stupid, but it works, just check it out.

Is the drive listed under BIOS? Starforce is an anti-piracy application that gets installed with some freeware games. It's to curb piracy.
