Driver issue with x1900gt

After about 5 minutes of gaming in any game, my computer freezes because my display driver stops working. It freezes for less than 20 seconds, then goes back to normal. I updated the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled them, and it keeps happening. Any ideas? I am using an x1900gt and a Viewsonic VX2235wm monitor.

Make sure it is not overheating, if CCC does not give you indication, d/l ATItool and that will give temps, just don't mess with anything else.

What indication do you have that it is driver related?

What OS do you have, also, you may have the right version, but maybe not 32 bit or 64 bit like you are supposed to.

Just some thoughts.

I think it may be overheating, however when it crashes Windows gives me a symbol down by the clock that looks like the yellow cautin triangle sign with the exclamation mark, and it gives me a popup window that says something like "The R300 display driver has stopped working but has recovered."

I am using Vista, and have the latest driver from ATI's site for 32bit Windows Vista. However, my card is getting waaaaay hot in game.

Here is a picture of the errors I get. It just happened like 3 minutes ago.

The "engine error" is from CS:S too. And now the error from the display driver is different. Before it was R300 and now its atikmdag. I have no idea whats going on.

If you haven't already ensure your fan is moving on your graphics card, makes sure its keeping cool. What are your temps? Also, try completly uninstalling the drivers and downloading them again.

I completely uninstalled the drivers, cleaned them with driver cleaner pro in safe mode, and redownloaded them, and reinstalled them. The current driver version for my card is 7.7. I even went back to 7.6 which is stable, and I still had the same error, but this time it took longer for the error to show up. My fan is spinning on my card too. Just looked. I dont know my temps because I dont know which thing in Speedfan is my video card. And I tried rivatuner but I couldnt find temps in there anywhere. Any other ideas? And thank you so much ETSA for your help so far. I appreciate it.
