Driver problems.

I'm going to explain the whole situation, as clearly as I can. HAHA...

It started while playing FIFA 07, which is probably right on the edge of killing my system. I was tabbing out of the game back to the desktop to my web browser. The screen went black for a few seconds, to switch over, which is normal. Then... The screen started blinking. from the desktop to a black screen, back and forth in 4 or 5 second intrevals. Untill the computer finally restarted itsself.

When the computer rebooted itsself, it went to the windows log in screen, where you select which account to go into but the screen was very different. Resolution, colors all looked weird. So I try to log in, and it just kept going back and forth to black screen, untill the computer restarted itself. So it was a never ending cycle

I logged into safe mode. The winows error screen where you report it, came up. It said my video card was the problem. Its an old model, Nvidia geforce4 4200 ti. I reloaded one of the old video drivers that came with the card, and it started working, but of course, its definatly not at optimum preformance for the card. The webbrowser instead of scrolling smoothley, goes frame by frame, and also all my videos are pretty pixelated.

So i go to Nvidea's website, d\l the most current driver, which was released back in november 06. Load it and BAM screen goes black, doing the same thing as b4, switching over 4 or 5 seconds until the system restarts itself.

One weird but good part was, I had my harddrive which is 200 gigs, partitioned, and one of the partitions wasnt working for about the last year. Well all of the sudden I can access it. Very weird.

So my question is, the colors and everything on the screen are fine. I'm getting good resolution, but is the card just fried? Why can't I load the new drivers, to get good video quality/play the same games as b4? IS there a different driver I need. Or what is the fix for this problem?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Alex

I bet the card's fried. If old drivers give you performance issues and new ones don't work, that sounds like something with the card... I guess you wouldn't happen to have another card laying around you could test in it?
