driver update finder?

I didn't know there was such thing as a software program that searched your entire computer for drivers that were out of date, but apparently I've got a lot of out-of-date drivers on my computer.:(

I thought Windows Update took care of all that?

Anyway, I was looking for the driver that recognizes my Android phone when I plug it into USB. I downloaded what I thought was the driver itself. Turned out to be software that scans entire computer for out-of-date drivers. Then as I expected, I clicked "Update All" and it said I needed to purchase a license.

Is there such thing as a "scanner" that will scan your computer for all the drivers that are out-of-date? Because it seems to me when I go into Device Manager, and click on every solitary thing and click on "Update Driver Software", then "Search Automatically", every single time they come up as "Best driver has already been installed..." Not sure if that's Microsoft just relying on the drivers that work perfectly fine with Windows 7 or something else.

Even my Logitech G9x laser mouse needed a driver...Weird. Anyone know if there's a driver tool out there that can help me more than "Device Manager" manual updates? :)

Driver update tools are useless and tend to cause more harm than good.

i always go to the manufacturers website for drivers.that way you get the latest, and more importantly, the right driver.be very wary of these driver updater programs.

Thanks. I didn't even know they existed before today.

Thanks. It said something about an AxxI driver being out of date. It was a 4-letter synonym for something. Not sure if there was a "P" in there. Might have been AHCI. Not sure if not having an updated AHCI driver would bog down my system cuz of the SSD and SSHD.

If your system works then no reason to update drivers to be honest. Those driver update programs are mainly malware anyway.

The only two software update programs I use are, iobit driver booster for drivers and milouz market.

Neither are 100% accurate, Milouz market is most accurate for ordinary programs, but does get the odd ones like skype wrong.

iobit driver booster seems fine to use as an extra guide, but has tried to direct me to install driver that don`t exist like updated motherboard drivers.

It is really just as quick to go to your motherboard support page and your gpu support page and check every so often and download manually if needed.

Yeah, my motherboard hasn't had an update in a long, long time. My GPU continually has updates, but it's not like I need them, since I don't game, unless updates sometimes can also just mean removing bugs.

I didn't go looking for update software, but when I saw all the stuff I was missing, then it got me concerned. The big stuff didn't worry me so much. It was the little stuff I don't pay attention to, like PCI to USB bridge, etc.
