Driver update is weird

I am trying to update the drivers for my 6800 GTO. Whenever I start updating, it tells me it has already found an older version of the drivers, and that it will uninstall them, restart, and continue installing the new version. However, when it loads back up, it doesn't have them uninstalled, and just gives the same message.

If I go to device manager and manually uninstall it, will I be able to see anything on the display? This may seem like a stupid question, but I just want to be careful.

According to the instructions seen at http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...WRyaXZlciB1bmluc3RhbGxlcnM*&p_li=&p_topview=1 you go into the Control Panel to the "add/remove" programs there to remove the drivers by choosing the NVidia listing and clicking the remove button afterwards. The device manager is the last option where you right and choose the uninstall option there and restart the system.

Windows comes with it's own default vga drivers included. When first installing Windows on a new machine you need something there to see with. Once you have restarted the system you will be prompted for drivers needed due to the new hardware detected. If the update includes an installer that prompt can be closed out. The installer will put them after where another system restart will then make them active.
