Hi,

I am formatting my hard disk to start over but i have lost all my driver disks for my motherboard soundcard etc. It there any way to save to a disk all my drivers so when i reinstall windows i can use them? or is there any way to find out exactly what drivers i need and downlaod them? I am using windows xp.

Thanks

Alex

You will need to know what mainboard you have (it will be stamped on the board somewhere), then go to the manufacturer site and look for driver downloads.

Make sure you download the drivers for Windows XP.

You'll want your chipset driver, and any onboard components for your board (video, sound, lan, sata, etc...)

If you have other cards or peripherals (video cards, sound, nic, mouse, keyboard, etc), you will need to go to each manufacturer's site and find the drivers for your model.

To make a driver disk, put them all in a folder and use Nero (or your favorite burning application) to burn a data disk.

Thanks for the reply

Isnt there any way to just copy the windows drivers folder and put it on a disk then paste it over the new windows drivers folder?

No, that won't work. There are other entries in the file system and registry when you install the software.

Use Driver Magician or Driver Genius to back up your drivers to say a DVD. After a re-install and when your hardware is detected, point it to your DVD and they will be installed.
