Drivers

You don't need to install drivers, windows has all you need. Now you do need software. Windows has a few burning utilities built in, but honestly I never touch them.

There plug and play, no drivers needed. But windows burning is pretty lame, you need a Burning software program like Nero-DeepBurner and so on!

Is that a typo or am I completely misunderstanding you

drivers make the cd/dvd run
software will be programs to write data to the disk or play the movies.

windows does have the software to do all this but its not that good
you should get a cd with the new drive that has trial versions of
programs such as Nero.

oh damn, so i cant burn anything without specail software!? does vista 64-bit come with any?
you can burn without buying software with windows.

just copy what you want to write to the cd drive, then insert a blank cd and from my computer click on the left where it says " write to disk ".

As others have said, you dont need any drivers, and Windows comes with burning programs, but they are very limited.

You should download the trial of Nero.

for burning i usually use the programs clone cd, clone dvd, and any dvd. as long as i dont need any software other than that, im good
