drivers?

Hi

For some reason when i plug my flash sticks or external hard drive into the usb port my computer registers it but i can not access the flash stick or external drive anywhere. i can not access the files or folders on there.

this was not always the case. up until last week i could access using "my computers" where a new icon appeared. But that does not happen now.

does anyone know what the problem might be? drivers maybe?

XP doesn't need drivers for it's usb ports. If you plug anything into a pc running XP via a usb port, the computer should automatically detect it. Unless your not using Windows XP.....What OS are you using? When you plug it in, do you still hear the activation sound?

thanks for the reply.

yes i still hear the activation sound and even a little bubble comes up at the bottom of the screen saying "detected" comes up sometimes. even the little green arrow shows up in the bottom right corner. However i can not access the data on these external devices.

im using a PC and its 100% windows XP. and up until about a week ago i could always access data on my flash sticks etc..

i have no idea what the problem is. very weird.

anyone got any further help please or advise?
