Dropped Laptop Skips In Game

I was having a great time playing the sims 3 with my lap desk in the living room. My laptop has a SHIT balance point; I shifted my body slightly in my chair and my laptop flipped backwards and landed face down on the floor. I picked it up and nothing seemed to be damaged so I continued playing. Every 20 seconds of playing or so, the game freezes and no interface buttons or interactions are available, then the play resumes as normal until it happens again 20 seconds later. Is this a problem with damaged sectors on the hard drive? Should I get it replaced? What would I say the problem is?

The laptop is an Acer TimelineX 3830tg that I bought in late august of 2011.

I don't want the hard drive to crap out down the road as I've got important business documents that I keep and work on the laptop (I do back them up regularly on a 2.5" external drive).

Does anybody know what is wrong and/or what I can do to fix it?

This is pretty much a shot in the dark, but have you tried reseating the memory, a bang like that may have dislodged it somewhat.

Stranger things have happened from memory not being reseated properly.

Have you tried restarting it? You may have tripped a fall sensor in the HDD causing it to try to lock down the platter to keep it from being damaged.
If restarting doesn't help, then you will need to run the hard drive manufacturers diagnostics on the drive to be sure if its damaged or not. Check your BIOS, you may have a diagnostic program built into it.

Yeah I'd test your HDD. A lot of drives die after being dropped while running.
