OK, I have 6mbs dsl, at night my connection drops and aggravates the snot out of me, (heavy night time web traffic was said to be the problem, but I also suspect a faulty street light, as one night it failed to turn on and my internet was fine), my question, is there a modem configuration that may keep me connected even though it may slow my connection speed? I can take a slower speed but I hate drops. Also, I've read that a dsl filter may hinder a connection, is this true? Thanks.

Yes, A DSL filter will definately kill a connection if one is bad. Have you tried resetting your modem? Who is your provider?

i have several filters and they all work good, I read somewhere that u were better off not using a filter but hook the line straight into the modem, I'm using Windstream, I have the wireless turned off and am wired. And I have 3 modems that I have tried and tried resetting each

You do not need a filter on the modem, filters are only required when attaching phones to the jacks.
