DSL stops working......

Y'all may think I'm crazy but I'll ask anyway. My wife and I have separate computers. They are networked and share the internet connection thru a DSL gatway/router combo. For the past 2 nights my wife would leave her computer on at bed time to finish some downlowns and I would turn mine off. When we got up the next morning we noticed that we had lost DSL service (red blinking light). When I turned my computer back on the DSL would come back on. Can anyone explain this or am I going crazy.

The network cards or the PCs are going into some power saving mode and putting the router to sleep too? If this is an oddball event, perhaps the downloads finished earlier than normal enabling some timer to cut in. The wife's PC goes into Standby/Sleep and later the router goes to sleep and cuts DSL?
