Hey, I'm going to be moving into some private lofts this fall instead of my regular college dorms...and one of the things is that I have to get and pay for my own internet...now at home I have the 6mb/sec dsl thats like $46 and i looked around and bellsouth has a dsl for like $24.95 which is 256kb down and 128 up i think...is that a good dsl connection? the $24.95 one? or is it not worth it and shud i spend the $15-$20 more a month to get the 3mb or 6mb one....remember taking into consideration im going to be a poor college student and ill mostly use the net for either playing counter strike and surfing and downloding stuff at night
 
I used to have 256/128 DSL, and it was perfect for me. The only time i was dissapointed was when i was downloading large files (25-30KBps Max), or when i was trying to stream video. Other then that it was excellent, normal web pages loaded very fast, I had extremely low ping in online games, and it was constantly on.

I would weigh the pros and cons before deciding. If you download lots of stuff, your really going to want a faster connection. However if you dont download that many things, or dont care about it taking longer, get the $25 package.
 
I just ordered comcast 6mb for 19.99 a month (guaranteed for a year) With 10$ self install kit. Cant get much better that that.

Right now I'm with Comcast too, but I pay around $50 a month for 6000/512.
 
yeah i was thinking about getting the 6mb one and getting a wireless router ..cuz ill have three other roommates...50 bucks divided by four isnt that much for 6mb/sec.....if 4 ppl share a 6mb connection would it slow it down considerabely? would u say its better than getting one 256 kb line for $25

The only time it would slow down is if one or more of your roomates are downloading large files. When there just browsing the web or playing games, you arent going to notice a thing.

How does the self install kit work exactly... i mean do those comcast people ever come to your house???

Nope, basically they give you a modem/router if that is part of it and instructions on how to do it yourself.
