I'd go with a single 4870. I'm not sure about performance, but I'll bet ya it'll be faster. Not to mention further down the road you can just pop in another 4870.

A single expensive card ALWAYS performs better then two less expensive cards in SLI or CrossFire(X).

Generally you pay 200% the price for 130% the performance with dual GPU setups.
