Dual-Booting Vista and 7

So in the past I have successfully dual-booted XP and Vista by installing XP first on one hard drive and then installing Vista second on another hard drive, but I am wondering if I install Vista on a 250GB partition of my 2TB drive and then install Windows 7 on a 128GB SSD will I be able to dual-boot? Thanks.
 
You can triple boot xp, vista, and 7 if you want. And they don't need to be on separate drives, just separate partitions.
 
Thanks so it will work then? Yeah I know they don't have to be on seperate drives but 128GB is probably only big enough for one OS so I'll make a 250GB partition on my 2TB as well.
 
Would it be better to run Vista in a VM on top of Windows 7 than creating a dual-boot between the two? I'd like to use both for graphics design and video editing but I'd use Windows 7 when I needed the extra speed and performance from the SSD. Obviously if I had Vista in a VM on top of Windows 7 I'd only 7 for the design work. What are your thoughts on dual-booting? Should I just stick to a VM?
 
No I'm only trying to install Vista 64-bit and 7 64-bit, a couple of years ago on an older computer I dual-booted XP and Vista (before I got my hands on 7), I no longer own that machine. I think a VM might be the better option, but the reason why I'm wondering is because I like both Vista and 7...
 
Well unless you need one for a certain program because it doesn't work in the other, It's kinda pointless to have both installed. If you like both, just install one in a VM. Could you dual boot if you wanted? Yeah. It's up to you really.
 
Yep I think I'm going to take the VM route, will be easier to do than a dual-boot. With 12GB RAM installed in my machine, do you reckon I could allocate 8GB to the VM?
 
Well I'm upgrading to 12GB RAM anyway just so I can get a higher RAM 'cieling' and no I don't really do graphical stuff in the VM, I test software in the VM. I'll probably stick with 4GB for the Vista VM which is what I'm using at the moment with 8GB RAM in my system.
