Dual cards vs. monster, of same quality

I am trying to configure buying a new computer, and wonder if dual video cards is a better solution than one big one.
2 x 512m 9800GT vs. 1 x 1G 9800GT


Any thoughts?


Or is this overkill?

The SLI would be better I believe. You would have the same amount of RAM but you would have twice the video processors. And basically twice everything except for the RAM. The framerates won't be exactly double, but they should be better.

The 1GB 9800GT is not considered a "big one", it will perform almost the same as a single 512MB 9800GT.
