dual cards?

Hi I am waiting on my new mobo to arrive. I just purchased a new mobo that has a agp slot and a pcie slot so i can still use my agp card while i save for a nice pcie card ... but am i too hopefull that there is anyway that it will be possible to use the agp card in the agp slot and add a pcie card when i get it>? please help :rolleyes:
 
whats the point if you can't use them both at the same time? would there be any advantage of picking to use one or other why not just use the strongest all the time?
 
I think the idea is so you can use the AGP with the newer CPU`s and stuff, then
later if you want to upgrade your graphics card to pci-e then you can do so.

For people who want to get a new motherboard with PCI-E, but dont have money to buy a new video card, they can use their AGP until they have money for a PCI-E.
 
or if you like to mess with graphics programs, get a really nice but cheaper graphics card for agp, and a nice video card for pci-e... eh? eh?

what? i do use my computer for graphic applications and i am doing exactly as everyone is saying use my agp card i already have until i can afford a nice pcie card... but i guess its impossible to use both at the same time? what about dual monitors or something ? Is there any way to get the mobo to use both cards to get any gains ?
 
You can use 2 monitors with a single video card, but you cant use both of them to any advantage.
 
The only way you could use two video cards at once is SLI or Crossfire. And i'm pretty sure both of the cards have to have the same bus type, correct?

well, for 1 i was being somewhat sarcastic. but my point was, use a nice graphics card (such as a quattro) for graphics programs (as a video card, meant for gaming, does not handle such apps anywhere near as well) and then use the pci-e card for gaming. obviously, you would have to switch which card you use in bios everytime. in fact, just forget my comment, as i dont mean to confuse you.

That wouldnt work, only one can be used at a time.
 
what will happen once i get my new mobo and after i save for a pcie card and i leave the agp card in ? will the mobo automatically use the stronger card only? will it not work at all having both in? do you have to set a jumper or something to let it know which to use?
