Dual Channel...can I use 4gb and 2gb sticks?

Is it pointless to run 6gb rather than 4gb for Win7? Or will I get a boost during gaming and high usage times?

To my knowladge, you can only run the same size sticks in dual channel. And you would notice better performance with dual channel then 6 gb, so go 2 x 2 gb. Not to many games will even use over a couple GBs of system ram.

Just buy 2 x 2 and that way you're in dual channel.

Except for that he is already running 2x2 and only has 2 DIMM slots ;)

It will work fine, however it may not all be utilised. It is possible that it will run single channel, so less bandwidth but all 6GB used, or dual channel, in which case only 2GB of the 4GB will be used, rendering the upgrade worthless, as the system will still only be running on 4GB, or FLEX mode, with 2x2GB in dual channel + 2GB in single channel.

I would either leave it as it is or get 2x4GB, even if it means a bit more saving
