Dual Channel DDR Question

I just bought a new stick of PNY Optima ram, and i currently have a stick of PNY Verto ram. So they are the same manufacture. And they are both 512mb. Now, is there any possible way i can run these dual channel? My step-dad said that the only way you can run DC is to buy a pair of sticks instead of them seperate.

dual channel does need a matched pair, that doesnt mean you have to buy them as a pair but that they need to be identical if bought seperately.

I.E. the same speed etc.

Im running two 512mb sticks at dual channel and bought them seperately

Do you know the speed of the two sticks your using?

Yes they are seperate speeds, the PNY Verto one is DDR500 and the Optima is DDR400. I went ahead and took the Optima stick back and im left with $180. Any recommendations on a dual channel ram kit? Im trying to find cheap 2gigs, but i could settle with 1 gig.

Also, is there really a demand for 2gigs? Last time i checked (been some time) games werent asking a whole lot, i heard that 1gig is enough for anything.

Games and programs are getting more memory demanding. A lot of new games, such as Battlefield 2, will run with 1gb, but idealy with 2gb. If you want your computer to run smoothly, etc, go for 2gb. If you want it to be okay, mostly fine, etc, than 1gb will due.

Ok, now, if i buy the SAME EXACT module of ram as what i have in here now, i can use it in DC right? Ill show you what i have in here now, and im gonna buy another one, since their cheap anyway. And for any reference, this ram has been extrememly awsome. I got it 221mhz and it ran 2.5-3-3-6 stable and fine, sadly i cant OC it with my cpu being as slow as it is. But really, its great ram for the money, you wont find better.

as long as theyre the same size and the motherboard/cpu supports it
This is correct. RAM doesn't need to have the same speed or timings to run dual channel, as they are set to the same thing.

Got my new DC ram, 1 gig Dual Channel Corsair XMS DDR400 and it increased my bandwidth from 2.2gb/s to 3.2gb/s. But when i OC my cpu to 160mhz fsb my bandwidth goes all the way to 3.9gb/s!!!!!! Is that badass or what? what are some of your bandwidths?
