Dual Channel or single

The mobo im looking at has dual channel support. I'm looking to start off with 1 GB of RAM. So my question is, which is better, dual 512 or 1 stick of 1GB? Im thinking that the dual will be quicker maybe because it splits the load between the two. But im asking for ur input. Thanks.

Two 512 would be quicker but not cause it splits the load, only for the fact that it is dual channel with two sticks.
