Dual-Channel Problem

I've had this computer for just under a year now. I had no problems when I first built it, but just today I took out the processor to try out my friends (we were attempting to see whether it was his processor that didn't work or his board, turns out to be the board). It ended up refusing to POST, but I discovered it will work fine as long as the memory isn't set up for dual-channel, which it has been set to for almost a year. It will work with a single stick in one slot, or both sticks in dimms 1 and 3. I've tried using dimms 3 and 4... but it once again won't POST. Once in a while when I try dual-channel, it will beep as if about to POST, then restart again.

Both peices of ram are identicle (Kingmax 512MB DDR400) and are currently running them in dimms 1 and 3 running with my Athlon 64 3000+, and works with his Athlon 64 3500+. Any suggestions?

okay, not quite sure I understand the question, but if your sticks are in dimms 1 and 3, that's good cause you're supposed to run dual channel that way, not next to each other. Don't quite know how to describe it, but say your slots (O) are OO OO then for dual channel the sticks (X) need to be either OX OX or XO XO depending on which ones are 1 and 3. I don't really know what else to say, maybe if you clear your CMOS that may help if it doesn't work.

I probably should've said this, I'm using a MSI K8N Neo4-F, which specifies that you need the ram in the adjacent dimms for dual-channel. Cpu-z now reads single channel ram at 166mhz instead of dual channel ram at 200mhz (what it was at before). I cleared the CMOS, and then even flashed the bios with no prevail. With the flashed bios, it now repeatedly beeps when I attempt to run dual channel, which I looked up a means memory error. My question is now whether it's the memory or the board since I've tried each dimm with each piece of memory and they work fine, but don't work when I put them in a configuration for dual channel.
