Hey guys, im new here and to the whole custom computer scene. Ive learned a lot on my own just from browsing random sites and etc and i have decided to build my own custom comp. Ive picked out a Mobo and it supports DDR2 and dual channel and i like the idea of both. I wanted to know though since i have the ability to hold 4 chips of ram and i want to get at least 2gigs can i do 2 sperate dual channeled ram configs? In other words can i have 2 512's on one dual channel slot and 2 on the other? If so would that be better than just gettings 2 (1) gig chips or 1 (2) gig chip? PLease tell me if u cant understand what i just said cause i got a lot of new computer lingo/vocab floating around in my head.

You can use 2 1GB sticks to get 2GB, as long as the ram in once channel matches the ram in the other it should be ok for dual channel. With Intel chipsets you can have a 1GB stick in one channel and 2 512MB sticks in the other and it will make them dual channel. I'm not sure about the specifics of the Athlon 64 memory controller but it probably works the same way

So 3 sticks in total? The one (1) gig and the 2 512's? What if i wanted to do 4 512 with 2 sets of dual channel? Would it be faster to just to 2 1 gigs? would any of that work?
