Dual Channel Vs The...Other kind

What are the advantages and Disadvantages of either type?
(By other kind I mean non-dual channel)

Dual Channel RAM is faster. But it requires the RAM to be on 2 seperate sticks. The MOBO has to also support it (999/1000 do)

I think they mean Socket 939 and socket AM2(for AMD processors)

Basically, it seems single channel runs in 64bit mode, and duel runs in 128bit. Where's quad?
