Dual core or more Ghz for gaming?

I'm building my step son a new computer for gaming on a budget. I have decided on a HD 4830 videocard, 4 gigs of ram and a micro ATX mobo from MSI.

Yhe question that remains is: should I go with a dual core CPU with less Ghz or a single core with more Ghz to optimize his gaming experience on this computer?

Thankful for input

Also, if its on a budget take a look at either the e5200 intel dual cores, or the phenom II tri cores if they fit within your budget.

thanks guys. I was thinking AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Brisbane 2.3GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 Brisbane 2.7GHz. Like I said, I'm on a budget, lol...but I don't want the CPU to become a bottleneck either for the videocard (HD 4830)

I agree with StrangleHold, i have the 5200+ and i love it, but the 7750 is better for gaming, overclocking, mutlitasking, and just about everything.
Go for that, its only 60$
