Dual-Core Question...

My CPU is: Athlon64 X2 3800+, I would like to know if there is a way for me to find out if both of my CPUs cores are being used or if only one is being used.

Run the Windows Task Manager and under the CPU Usage tab, you should be able to see two CPUs with their respective usages. I am not 100% sure ... but it should be there.

Ya, when i had my P4 w/HT it showed 2 cpu graphs.

Sorry for bringing this post to 'life' again but I haven't been on the Computer Forum for a month or so and now that i'm back on, I still have a question regarding this matter. :P

When I go to System Properties (General Tab) I get the following CPU info:

Computer:
AMD Hammer Family Processor -
Model Unknown
2.01 Ghz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

My actual CPU is: AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+. Why doesn't this show up? I'm running WinXP Home (SP2).

But when I run the Windows Task Manager to view my CPU usage under the (Performance) tab, I get the following:

Why isn't my CPU usage show for both CPU cores?

Hmm

Well I think you have to install some add-ons from Microsoft and AMD in order to get the dual-core advantage. A driver needs to be installed for the OS to detect and utilise the fact that the processor has dual cores.

Is it enabled in BIOS to use both cores? with my P4 i had the option to disable or enable Hyper Threading.
