I'm honestly tired of seeing these threads... So why not keep everything in one, nice, and neat thread?

Okay, commence your squabbling!

For the record, I would go with a quad core :)

I wouldn't buy either now, i7 will be in my next build for sure. But if I had to choose one it would be Quad.

i'm not very good at computers, so i'll just ask...why would someone choose dual over quad if money wasn't an issue?

Personally, I think that dual cores are still some of the best values around--especially Intel's E7x00 series. Quads are only better in certain cituations currently. However, obviously, if money wasn't an issue, I'd of course go with quad!

Exactly! Hence the reason I'm still using an X2.

This'll end in tears, trust me. People get too anal about this subject.

whenever i get anal it tends to end in tears too.
god i love the english language.
anal has two meanings.
tears can be pronounced teers and tares. shit . i love it.

I personally went with quad for one reason, and for thats to get a processor, and not worry about it been slow for quite some time to come.... I did not have a use for Quad core back in July last year, but little did I know, id be playing quad core games right now (GTA IV).

Always get the best / most cores you can afford, even if you do not see an improvement now, later on down the road, you'll be thankful.

People tend to get upset at these posts.I think if you are paying for it you should get whatever floats your boat.If you playing just games either the dual or quad will do pretty good service with a good graphics card.

people just need to do the research for themselves and find out the pros and cons of each and then make a decision based on what they are using the chip for. there's no reason for there to be so many of these threads on CF, it is a very simple topic.

Right now quad the i7 I have and the q6600 I had do everything I needed and more.
I had E8400 for a while and if I didn't upgrade to i7 I would have stuck with that for a while.
Like Dirty said dual for some cases and quad for others.
Right now it's quad for me.
I can't wait for threads like 4 core or 8 core.

That's not a good analogy when it comes to processors. Things like L2 Cache and Clock Speed are different in these two. Beers are all the same :P
