Dual Display problem

Right now I currently have a 17" widescreen monitor. I bought a 22" HDTV to use as a TV and possibly a second monitor for my dorm. When I hooked up the TV to my second VGA out on my video card and changed the TV input to VGA the computer did not recognize the TV and the TV displayed no signal. I was wondering if this might just be a problem with the VGA input. If I hooked up the TV via HDMI do you think I would have the same problem?
 
Okay I've kinda just answered my own question here. Well I installed new graphics drivers and restarted the computer and then the TV turned on. I guess it just needed a restart to see the TV. Haha the only problem now is that it's stuck in 1440x900 because that is the max the VGA input supports. I'm going to buy an HDMI cable later to get the full 1680x1050.
 
or get the component cables (red, blue, green) that connect to a thing that goes into your S-video input to the video card.
