Dual display settings

Hi guys..im having a problem setting up a dual display becuase when i ever i search on google...there always seems to be images with the a control panel setting showing two boxes indicating the number of monitors...but mine shows nothing..just an image of a pc...and im sure it aint my graphic card..i have a xfx geforce 8600 512 DDR2

did you hook up the monitor while the computer was running or while it was off?

cos it might not have detected it if you put it in while it was running. try nvidia control panel too. [right click on the desktop and its one of the options]
 
Once in nvidia control panel click the display tab then click setup multiple displays. You prob have to restart after making the changes.
