Dual GPUs

Which is better, nVidia's SLI or ATIs Crossfire. If you prefer,

2x 7800GTXs in SLI
vs.
2x X1800 XL in Crossfire

Basically, the two best GPUs in seperate modes.

Im not sure on the performance of the crossfire, ati said that they have seperate modes. I would go with the 7800GTX in sli.

Based on the THG benchmarks between the 7800GTX SLi and just an X850XT in Crossfire, I'd probably say that the X1800 in Crossfire would be better than the 7800GTX in SLi. The 7800GTX won many of the bench's against the X850XT but not by a far amount. The X1800XT would probably be able to surpass the 7800GTXs. Don't ya think ATi took a long enough time to finally somewhat regain
the "performance crown" they might completely regain it if nVidia doesn't release a new card soon.

Also, There are different modes in crossfire, it uses both card to render differently depending on if it is a DirectX game or OpenGL game.

ATI have only just released there card, so Nvidia still have a while to release a newer card.

I tend to lean towards ATI's catalyst drivers. They have always seemed to be alot more bug free IMO. Both the 7800GTX and X1800 are so powerful, having an issue of those cards not being able to handle what is thrown at them will not happen for awhile (assuming you have the other corresponding hardware to match the ability of those cards). Thus, leading me to my point of, the drivers will make or break the answer to that question.

i would have to say SLI rather than crossfire simply because crossfire is limited to 1600 x 1200 @ 60Hz.... although that doesn't mean much if you're using LCD's

the point of multiple gpu's is that the large power available is designed for high resolution/detail gaming, if you are limited to crappy refresh rates whats the point in having multiple gpu's?
