DL (dual layer) is a designation associated with DVDs and denotes drives/media that are capable of burning DVDs that have multiple layers to them (4.36GB for consumer media, 8.72GB for commercially stamped media). In order to burn using "dual layer" you must have both dual-layer media as well as a dual-layer capable burner
A dual layer is almost double the capacity of a single layer dvd, DVD Movies are dual-layer.Bigboi11 said:What is the advantage to having a dual layer dvd burner? will it make me be able to back up some of the longer dvd's without compressing them or removing sound or menu's? Do they take different dvd's than regular burners do.
like i said b4..SoftJaws said:I have the same questions you do. Does compression degrade the original images or data? If not or if loss is negligible, then why not compress to single layer. Can all, most or any DVD players read compressed DVD's? I scanned thru CD/DVD 101 and didn't find these answers. Maybe I missed it.
thus Dual layer only applies to DVD burners that can do it and if the DVD that is being burned can have dual layers. and dual layer offers more space.CD/DVD 101 said:DL (dual layer) is a designation associated with DVDs and denotes drives/media that are capable of burning DVDs that have multiple layers to them (4.36GB for consumer media, 8.72GB for commercially stamped media).
